Firefighters saved 30 animals from a pet store fire in Queens yesterday, according to the NYDN. Because the Astoria shop was closed for Memorial Day, the firemen had to cut their way through the security gates. Sadly, while they were able to rescue many cats and dogs, they couldn’t help the birds, which are particularly vulnerable to smoke inhalation.
